An Artistic Legacy
Some people make their creative mark showing in public art exhibits, teaching or direct sales. One artist left her legacy at Art Salvage in 2019.
Pat Price, a lovely 92 year old artist, donated over 350 pounds of high end and well loved art supplies to Art Salvage when she downsized to an apartment. When something like that comes in, we take particular notice. “We were all curious who this person was, since the donation was arranged though a board member” said Katie Patterson Larson, the Art Salvage Executive Director. Noted by one Art Salvage volunteer, “The paint was still on the palate, some equipment was custom made and the items were immediately bought up and spread throughout the community to continue giving.”
When we visited, Pat Price was happy and nostalgic over her donations. “I remember when I bought that watercolor set. It was for a 1990 trip to Turkey with Sister Paula Turnbull”, she says pulling out a sketchbook documenting the travel. ”I would grab this notebook first if there was a fire.”
Pat works in oil mostly, “a forgiving medium”, and was self taught with the help of local classes, between raising a family. She is glad to know so much of her life’s collection is being repurposed in a useful and loving way. And so are we.
